Empowering Music Industry Professionals

I founded Equalizer Consulting having spent over 20 years in the music industry. I worked within both frontline and catalog labels, and eventually went on to build a cutting-edge data operations team in support of a major publisher’s core and production music teams. I like to say that I live in the center of the Venn diagram where recorded music and publishing intersect.

Over the years, and thanks to the wide range of experiences in my career, I’ve become a music metadata evangelist. I am often asked what I mean by “metadata” and it really encompasses everything from how a person’s name is credited to the genre tags applied to a song. In today’s digital music landscape, it is a key component to success - ensuring proper credits, enhancing music discovery, and with a direct impact on the ability to receive royalties.

Equalizer Consulting’s mission is two fold.

For my corporate clients, I aim to help you develop a data-forward strategy for your business, and in support of the artists and songwriters that you represent. Through assessment of employee data engagement, implementation of data standards, and enhancement of process workflows, we can make sure that high-quality data is efficiently flowing through essential pipelines. I also love to create training programs, whether to provide ongoing professional development about different aspects of the music industry, or to foster a better understanding of the value of metadata throughout the lifecycle of a song.

For my individual clients, I aim to empower you with knowledge and the confidence to succeed when navigating the complexities of metadata, rights ownership, registration, and royalties. Especially in a fast-paced, technological environment, teaching you how to protect your valuable musical assets is essential. I have been fortunate to have had inspiring mentors throughout my career, so I enjoy giving back to aspiring musicians and industry professionals through mentoring and speaking engagements across the music community. I’m currently a music industry instructor at Point Blank Music School in Los Angeles where I am honored to be guiding my students as they begin their journey in this industry.
